Project Brief
The clients approached us to revitalise a large but underutilised garden space. Their ambition was to transform it into a multifunctional outdoor living area that would allow them to entertain with ease and connect more meaningfully with the outdoors.
The core brief included a covered outdoor kitchen and dining area complete with refrigeration, storage, and a built-in BBQ. A separate lounge zone was designed around a striking brick feature wall with a built-in fireplace. The clients were drawn to industrial influences inspired by London styling — particularly the use of brick, steel, and timber.
In addition to meeting immediate lifestyle needs, the new garden was designed to increase the long-term value of the property by turning it into a highly functional extension of the home.
Design Response
To reflect the client’s design sensibilities, we paired industrial materials with natural tones — including reclaimed brick, London clay pavers, and a larch-clad canopy. A restrained, contemporary material palette brought cohesion and calm, while a self-bound gravel ensured permeability and softened transitions underfoot.
We strategically placed the covered kitchen and lounge area toward the rear of the garden. This not only extended the usable space but drew visitors through the garden, encouraging full engagement with the space. Planting focused on biodiversity and structure, using layered, naturalistic combinations complemented by several newly planted trees to frame and soften the built elements.
The result is a quietly confident garden that balances sociability with sanctuary — offering a calm, elegant backdrop for everyday living and year-round entertaining.
Testimonial
“From the initial concept to the final planting, the entire experience with Tom and his team has been exceptional. His vision and creativity helped us see the potential of our garden in a way we never could have imagined on our own. He carefully listened to our brief and went above and beyond to incorporate ideas we hadn’t even considered — and the result is a garden that feels like a natural extension of our home.
The design process was smooth and collaborative, and once the build began, we were impressed by the team’s precision and care. Tom’s attention to detail is evident in every line and every corner of the space. Despite our lack of gardening expertise, he created a planting scheme that’s low-maintenance and looks stunning throughout the seasons.
We’ve already spent countless evenings enjoying barbecues with friends under the canopy and quiet mornings by the outdoor fireplace. It’s more than a garden — it’s a place we truly live in now. We couldn’t recommend Tom more highly.”
